With the spring weather bringing more sunshine, you might be venturing out on the local sidewalks or visiting downtown Harrison Square in Alexandria. During your strolls, you might see some historic decorative star bricks used in various local spots and walkways. Nancy Steele recently donated several pallets of star bricks to our museum, so we were curious about their history.

Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans
FRANKLIN, Ind. - Since August 2015, Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans’ mission is to FIND, THANK and REPAY Hoosier Vets. A strategic collaboration with Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution has been a key component to over 250 community events taking place and ensured all Indiana public libraries and high schools have a donated copy of A Time To Honor, Stories of Service, Duty, and Sacrifice.

Your Dollars and Sense
As I sit to write this installment of our time together, the sun is shining and we are experiencing temperatures that are telling us that we’ve almost made it through the winter. What a winter we had!

APD featured officer:
Alexandria Police Department Captain, Jason Austin, joined APD as a Reserve Officer in 1998. He joined the force as a full-time officer in June of 2002 as a patrol officer. From 2008 through 2016, Austin served as the department’s K9 handler with K9 officer, Blaze. Austin was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2011. He currently serves as the second shift captain.

Alexandria Fire Department featured member:
Alexandria firefighter, Bryce Wilson, joined the department as a part time employee in 2019 before accepting a full-time position with the department on October 19, 2020.

It is an epidemic that affects people from all walks of life—regardless of gender, age, or socioeconomic status. Domestic violence is not just a family issue; it’s a public safety issue, and addressing it is a priority for the Alexandria Police Department.
