Despite community efforts to stop the closure, last week the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) announced the Alexandria branch located at 2211 S Park Ave will close. The last day of operation will be Wednesday July 2, 2025.
The trial for Carl Roy Webb Boards II, the man charged with the murder of Officer Noah Jacob Shahnavaz, has been moved to Anderson City Court.
On May 1, an Alexandria police officer observed a parked vehicle in the parking lot of the Church at Broadway Park in the 300 block of N. West Street. Having never encountered a vehicle parked in the area after hours, the officer approached the vehicle noticing the windows were fogged up. When he pulled up to the vehicle, he turned on his flood lights but did not see a shadow of a person through the passenger side.
The owners of Curve Street Metals and the vacant former Aladdin property have reported multiple break-ins at both properties which seem to have escalated over the past few months.
Austen Mills, of Alexandria, was arrested following an investigation by the Westfield Police Department, Hamilton Council Metro Child Exploitation Task Force. A detective of the task force was assigned to investigate a Cyber Tip submitted by Dropbox, Inc., a file hosting service offering cloud storage of data. The report stated that Dropbox, Inc. had found a user of their service had uploaded a file of child pornography and provided the user information indicated Mills was the perpetrator.
Recently, Alexandria police officers were dispatched to the 900 block of W. Washington Street to investigate a domestic dispute. The caller told officers he was having problems with Corey Hollingsworth over children in the caller’s custody at the time that Hollingsworth had left alone at his home in Anderson. The caller a said he was concerned Hollingsworth was coming to the Alexandria resident to get the children, and that he was angry and possibly using drugs.
BUNKER HILL — Carl Roy Webb Boards II, the man awaiting trial in the 2022 fatal shooting of Elwood Officer Noah Jacob Shahnavaz, is accused of stabbing a prison guard Thursday at Miami Correctional Facility.
Homer’s Helpers, a local animal rescue group, is celebrating its five-year anniversary serving the Alexandria community. The group organized after founding members were able to apprehend the infamous “Homer” to provide medical care until his death. Homer has been tagged as the community stray and stayed just out of reach for years.
