After almost one and half years, the Washington Street project is finally over. City officials and crews opened the street from Pennsylvania to Wayne Street and Chestnut to State Road 9 last week with a mini parade consisting of the Alexandria Fire Department and Alexandria Police Department.
Last week, Alexandria native and resident, Becky Allen, realized a dream come true when she launched a soft opening of Whistle Stop Bread Company. Allen, who describes herself as the founder, owner, baker, and yes, driver, of the mobile business.
For the first time in 23 years, the Alexandria Tigers boys’ tennis team hoisted an IHSAA Sectional Championship trophy, defeating rival Frankton 4–1 on Saturday night. The victory marks the program’s fourth sectional crown overall and the first since 2002.
The Alexandria City Council opened its meeting Monday evening for the public hearing to present and discuss the proposed budget for 2026. The $6.6 million budget presented to the council included a general operating fund of $4,093,240.00.

Despite the ups and downs, the highlight was a statement conference victory over rival Frankton, keeping the Tigers undefeated in Central Indiana Conference (CIC) play and atop the conference standings at 3-0.

Red Gold is excited to announce its annual Crush Hunger Saturday that will take place on October 11 in downtown Elwood. This three-part event includes the 14th Annual Run to Crush Hunger, 37th Annual Red Gold Chili Cook-Off and Colts Blue Saturday. For the fourteenth year in a row, the Run to Crush Hunger unites local communities to promote healthy and active lifestyles, while fighting hunger in Central Indiana by giving back to local food banks. The Red Gold Run to Crush Hunger features a 5k run and 1 mile family walk and each race participant will help provide 120 meals to families in need.
