Behind the Badge: How to Be a Good Witness
Dear Citizens of Alexandria,

Dear Citizens of Alexandria,
The Alexandria City Council approved a Resolution to accommodate public comments at its monthly meetings Monday evening. The public comment agenda item has not been a part of the monthly agenda for over a year, and residents have struggled to get on the agenda to address council members with concerns.

The Alexandria-Monroe High School baseball team saw its 2025 season come to a close Wednesday evening in the opening round of the IHSAA Sectional, falling to rival Madison-Grant, 4-2. Despite a late rally in the seventh inning, the Tigers could not overcome a four-run fifth by the Argylls. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was postponed due to rain. When play resumed at Madison-Grant, both teams battled through chilly, mid-May conditions that felt more like early April.

Last week the Alexandria Community School Corporation honored those employees retiring from service at the end of the 2024-2025 school year at a dinner with family and friends. Those honored were: Linda Crume (14 years of service, Title 1 Interventionist), Linda Horn (28 years, teacher), Tamara DiRuzza (28 years, teacher), Cherylin Chafin (20 years, cafeteria), and Cynthia McFerran (18 years, teacher).

Recently, historical society member Eric Freeman shared his postcard collection, which included several unique images of Alexandria. (We shared some with our Facebook followers.) Some of his postcards featured the I.O.O.F. cemetery. One postmarked as 1914 shows a dirt road west of the main entrance. That got us thinking: When did that road become paved and a state road?
