As the Alexandria Tigers Girls’ Golf Team tees off for the 2025 season, the program enters a new chapter under the steady leadership of longtime coach Bruce Johnson, now entering his 11th year at the helm. Following an impressive 2024 campaign that saw the Lady Tigers crowned CIC Conference Champions and finish with an 11-4 record, expectations remain high—though the team will need to navigate some key departures and new dynamics.

The Madison County 4-H queen contest was held on July 12 prior to the official opening of the 2025 fair. Since then, the crowned queen Emma Kelich has spent every day between July 12 and July 26 at the 4H fairgrounds.
Tuesday morning, former Summitville Volunteer Fire Department Chief, James Randall “Randy” Sizelove appeared in Madison County Circuit Court I for a sentencing and restitution hearing stemming from charges of Theft (Level 6 felony), Official Misconduct (Level 6 felony), and Conflict of Interest (Level 6 felony). Sizelove appeared for the hearing via Zoom technology from the New Castle Department of Corrections where he is currently serving an 18-year sentence on previous child sexual misconduct charges.

The Alexandria 12U baseball team completed a dominant run through the District IV Town & Country Tournament, capturing the District Championship with a 9–3 victory over Madison-Grant in Sunday evening’s title game at LaFontaine. With the win, Alexandria advances to the Frankton Semi-State as the #1 seed, a well-earned reward after an undefeated tournament performance.
There’s usually a negative connotation that comes with the idea of “winning ugly.” No one enjoys going out, doing their best, and - even in success - having their work labeled that way. Most of the time “winning ugly” implies that, for whatever reason, things for an athlete or team just didn’t click. They struggled to score, didn’t execute well, or had a hard time stopping their opponent. They survived...but barely. When the game gets ugly, it can be hard to watch. And even though we wouldn’t choose winning ugly over making it all look good, I do want you to see - as it relates to raising champion athletes and people today - that winning ugly can actually be a beautiful thing.
On June 20, 2025, former Alexandria resident, Barry Morphew, who has been a longtime suspect in the disappearance and murder of his wife, Suzanne Morman Morphew, was arrested and charged with her death for the second time. The first charges were dismissed without prejudice, which gave the authorities the right to charge him again.

The 2025 Madison County 4-H Fair Queen will be corned Sunday, July 13 at the 4-H Exhibit Hall at the Madison County 4-H Fairgrounds in Alexandria. The contest will begin at 7 p.m.
