AFD Captain, Brad Meyers, joined the Alexandria Fire Department in 2003 at the tender age of 18 as a part time firefighter. He became a full-time member in 2008. In addition to Firefighter I and II, Meyers serves as one of the department’s paramedics.

Homer’s Helpers, a local animal rescue group, is celebrating its five-year anniversary serving the Alexandria community. The group organized after founding members were able to apprehend the infamous “Homer” to provide medical care until his death. INDIANAPOLIS— A federal jury has found Joshua W. Stearman, 42, of Anderson, guilty of unlawfully possessing incendiary bombs, commonly referred to as Molotov cocktails, and falsely impersonating an officer or employee of the United States.
At its meeting last week, the Madison County Council approved a letter of support to add Monroe Township residents in Scott’s and Phillip’s additions into a regional utility district. Creating the regional utility district adds the residents in the additions to the sewage system in the city of Alexandria. The letter of support passed the council by a narrow vote of 4 to 3 after a motion to delay the vote by Council member Bethany Keller failed.
Alexandria CARE Day started in the fall of 1982, when a group of Alexandria merchants were talking in the back room of one of the downtown businesses. They were trying to come up with a way to give back to the community. The idea of CARE Day was formed and organized every year by the Alexandria Monroe Chamber of Commerce. CARE Day stands for Centralized Alexandria Revitalization Effort.

Anderson, IN - Sunday evening, at approximately 5 p.m., an Indiana State Trooper attempted to pull over a white Volkswagen for excessive speed on I-69 north of Anderson, 89mph in a 70mph zone. When the trooper pulled in behind the vehicle, the driver fled southbound. The suspect exited I-69 onto SR 32, the suspect led the trooper through Chesterfield and into Anderson. The vehicle turned onto 9th Street in Anderson and sped toward the White River, which was at the end of the dead-end street. The driver stopped the Volkswagen and bailed out on foot, leaving a female passenger behind. The Trooper pursued the man on foot as he ran toward the river. The man then jumped into the water. Due to recent storms, the river was moving rapidly and the water level was very high. The trooper maintained a visual on the man as he was swept down the river a short distance, eventually clinging to a pile of brush in the water. The Anderson Fire Department responded with water rescue equipment and pulled the man from the water. The man was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The female passenger was not arrested.
