THE BEAUTY OF WINNING UGLY

There’s usually a negative connotation that comes with the idea of “winning ugly.” No one enjoys going out, doing their best, and - even in success - having their work labeled that way. Most of the time “winning ugly” implies that, for whatever reason, things for an athlete or team just didn’t click. They struggled to score, didn’t execute well, or had a hard time stopping their opponent. They survived...but barely. When the game gets ugly, it can be hard to watch. And even though we wouldn’t choose winning ugly over making it all look good, I do want you to see - as it relates to raising champion athletes and people today - that winning ugly can actually be a beautiful thing.

There’s no disputing that natural ability matters and that it plays an important part in our pursuit, but there are talented people everywhere who never come close to reaching their potential or achieving anything worthwhile.

Tigers wrap up golf season at sectionals

The Alexandria-Monroe High School Tigers boys’ golf team capped off a solid 2024-25 season with a team score of 388 in sectional play at Harbour Trees Golf & Beach Club in Noblesville. While the team came up short of advancing, the Tigers showcased determination and growth throughout a competitive year that saw them finish with a 9-6 regular season record.

Harpe shines at Indiana Tennis North-South All-Star event

2025 Alexandria-Monroe High School graduate, Lily Harpe capped off an exceptional high school tennis career by representing her school at the 2025 Indiana Tennis North-South All-Star series. Held at the Pendleton Sports and Wellness Center, the prestigious event brought together 24 of the state’s top senior tennis players for a final showcase of skill and sportsmanship. Harpe was selected as one of only 46 All-Stars in Alexandria history and became the 16th athlete from the school to be honored in tennis. Competing for the North team, she helped lead her squad to a dominant 41-17 victory over the South. Harpe competed in three rounds of doubles play, each with a different partner from around the state, gaining two wins and one narrow loss:

LAPEL, Ind. — The No. 2-ranked Alexandria softball team put on a hitting clinic as the Lady Tigers hammered their way to the program’s first regional championship, blasting No. 4 Lapel 18-3 in five innings here last Tuesday night.

Jacklynn Hosier makes history with All-Star and Softball double duty

2025 Alexandria-Monroe High School graduate, Jacklynn Hosier capped off her senior year and an unforgettable week that showcased her relentless dedication and undeniable love for competition. Last week, Hosier became the sixth female and eighth overall Indiana All-Star from Alexandria, competing in the prestigious Indiana All-Star basketball series while simultaneously helping the Lady Tiger softball team make school history.
