ALEXANDRIA, IN – Mara Jo (Vollenhals) Maxwell, 89 entered peace and rest from her residence on Thursday, July 6, 2023, surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness.
Jo was born on June 11, 1934, in Alexandria to Andrew and Mabel (Tomlinson) Vollenhals and has lived in the Alexandria area most of her lifetime. She attended Alexandria schools and received her GED in 1990. She worked in production at Delco-Remy for 25 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Alexandria First Baptist Church. For several years she and Bill wintered in Florida. She enjoyed camping, raising, racing and trail riding their quarter horses and weekly card games with family and friends. Mara Jo was a fan of the Indiana Pacers and IU Basketball. She lived life to its fullest. Mara Jo will be sadly missed and warmly remembered.

Maxwell-married July 22, 1977, 2 Daughters-Paula (Melvin) Garrett-Frankton, Tammy (Bill) Bronner-Gaston, Son-Jack (Pat) Woods-Alexandria, Step-son-Vance (Patty) Maxwell-Pendleton, 7 Grandchildren, 10 Great-Grandchildren, 2 Sisters-Rhea Colleen McCorkle-Dayton, Ohio, Rita Sue (Lewis) Van Blair-Elwood, Brother-Jerry Vollenhals-Alexandria, Several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter-Kaitlin King, brothers-Russell Vollenhals, Earl Vollenhals, Rick Vollenhals., sisters-Marilyn Cox, Jean Ann O’Bryant
Services honoring Jo’s life, legacy and faith will take place at 6 pm on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 in the Alexandria First Baptist Church, 2107 South Park Avenue, Alexandria with Pastor Michael Deutsch officiating. Cremation will follow the services with interment at Anderson Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. The Maxwell family will receive friends at the church after 4 pm on Wednesday prior to the service.

Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria has been entrusted with Jo’s service and cremation arrangements.
